The Ardennes & Luxembourg, September 26th - October 1st
We often speed through Belgium en route to Germany , but it is time we based a holiday in southern Belgium to explore some of the attractions that the area has to offer. We have chosen to stay in the city of Namur, capital of Wallonia, and situated at the confluence of the Meuse and Sambre.
OUTLINE ITINERARY
Friday) Morning departure by Eurostar to Brussels, thence onward to Namur. Transfer to our hotel opposite the station.
Saturday) The Chemin der Fer Trois Vallees is the premier museum railway in Belgium, running between Treignes and Mariembourg, and our visit coincides with the annual Steam Festival weekend.
Sunday) We travel to Luxembourg to visit the museum railway Train 1900, which runs from Petange to Bois des Rodange. The line is part of a network which served the once extensive mining industry in the area.
Monday) A private visit to the Lobbes – Thuin Vicinal Tramway Museum near Charleroi.
Tuesday) A train ride along the Meuse valley to the town of Dinant. Time to explore, with the chance to take the funicular to the Citadel fortress above the town, visit nearby caves, or perhaps enjoy a boat trip.
Wednesday) Time for a final wander around Namur before our return journey to London.
OUR HOTEL
We have chosen the 3 star Grand Hotel de Flandre, which is conveniently situated opposite the station. Tour price is £635 per person sharing twin / double room, with £150 single supplement if required.
